Shawn, Tamar, Molly and I headed to the sun and warmth of the Utahan desert for Spring Break.  We were not dissapointed in any any (except that Spring Break is ONLY one week long).

We began with a trip into the Escalante River via Fence Canyon.  We followed the river for a day then headed back to the car via 25 Mile Wash and and area simply known as Egypt.

We were greeted by a classic desert scene:

Getting started:

Heading into Fence Canyon:

Fance Canyon from the rim:

While hiking in the Escalante River canyon, we often had to either cross the river...

or simply hike in the river:

Believe it or not the water was COLD !!

Ringtail cat tracks:

Our first camp at (none other than) Ringtail Canyon's mouth:

Sometimes we hiked up dry, overflow areas ...

Sometimes the overflow areas were filled and we had to get across them (usually with more success than this one):

The usual suspects:

Heading up 25 Mile Wash:

Ruins (a grainery ?) in 25 Mile Wash:

Perspective is always being challenged in the desert:

Hiking out through Egypt:

The happy group:

After biking in Moab (with evewry four-wheel drive enthusiast in the South West), Molly and I headed to Muddy Creek for a few days of fun:

After wading in Muddy Creek, there was a great 5.0 enterance to Chimney Canyon:

Even further up, our destination: The Wall of Ghouls
