Any trip into Ram Valley on good weather days begins with the classic view of Eagle and Polar Bear Peaks.
From Ram Valley, Peeking is a classic climb !! Tim and I were in the area few years prior and came upon a freshly dead Dall sheep and calf. The ewe had died in a fall. After calling numerous wildlife services, it became obvious that they had more animals much closer to roads that they could save. The bones from the ewe were almost in the exact spot where she was seen year before.
While checking out the bones, we were reminded that, currently, there is no reason to worry about the Dall sheep population in Ram Valley.
Although the final pyramid is very spectacular looking, the climbing is much easier tham appearances lead you to believe.
Unfortunately, the weather (just at the summit) was a bit crummy. Clouds kept moving in and out. However, they did provide some fun peep-hole views of Peter's Creek and the Raisin Glacier.
The descent was highly entertaining !! Coming down off the ridge maxed out the abilities of my lightweight ice axe and running shoe crampons. At the top of the gully, I took a deep breath then bolted down it as fast as I could - as little time in the range of the rock fall the better !
Arc always amazes me at his strength, endurance, how he can get comfortable in 34 degree water !
On the drive home, the story was told again - good weather except at the summit !
