Well ... I started this weekend with plans of a grand, Chugach Traverse. The weather did not make me feel comfortable enough to try it so I scurried home after two days in the wind and did a few day climbs instead. The attempt with Arc .. he really loves his pack !
Hiking out ...note the fresh snow:
This is the valley that I was supposed to ascend (again, note the snow):
Day trip #1: Bold Peak Some sheep on the way up
At the top of the fixed line ... the weather looked promising:
Then it deteriorated (but only long enough for me to climb the peak !) Looking at the peak from the top of Stiver's Gulley ... the summit is in there somewhere:
The view from the summit ridge:
On the summit ... with great views (of snow falling):
Murphy lives !! This is the view of the peak as I biked back to the car !!
The clouds just sort of dissipated ... making me wonder if I really did just climb it in a snow storm ...
Day trip #2: Eagle Peak Jennifer, Tim, Ben, Arc, Zora, and I headed out to climb Eagle Peak on Monday. Zora got sidetracked on the way out and ended up having an adventure of her own (mostly spent in the car). The weather did the EXACT SAME THING as on Sunday: it started out questionable, a bit of rain on the hike in, climbing in wind and snow, and then hiking out in beautiful sunshine !
My one shot of Zora:
A photo of Ben running back down the trail - for some the day was not going to be long enough:
Rain. Sun. We had it all. Sometimes at the same time:
This is what Eagle Peak (and Eagle Lake) looked like as we set out:
Hiking up the Flute River (?). Eagle Peak is in the background:
Tim with the Flute Glacier in the background:
Climbing up in a snow storm:
At the top of the S-gulley:
The last bit of scrambling (Eagle Lake is to the right):
Arc the wonder-dog !!
On top of Eagle
oops...
Eagle Lake from the top:
Coming down with the S-gulley in the background:
On our way down, the day just got nicer and nicer ...
It is hard to believe it was the same day ... hiking out Eagle Peak glowed in the sunshine:
Jennifer is the red dot on the left (she just couldn't wait for us any longer !):
Hiking out...
While Adrienne was away on a soggy sea kayaking trip, Arc had a field day in her garden !
