| Chris and I set off on a weekend to the end of the South Fork Valley and one of the glaciers that feeds it - the Flute Glacier. Although we retreated a day early when rains kept us from climbing, we did manage two glorious days in the sun. Our camp was on a little knoll above Eagle Lake.
Can you find the little green dot ?
When we left in the morning to climb Ewe, Abby was ready to go but Arc was sleeping happily.
So we began to climb without him. You can see him at the door of the tent in this shot from above.
Our little "prank" backfired, when we called to him to join us he woke up and was not able to see us (the photo above is actually zoomed in to the max). He started to take off in the opposite direction ! After frantic shouting and jumping up and down, he soon spotted us and climbed up and joined us. We brought skis for floatation but they turned out to be unnecessary.
The Flute Glacier and Ewe Peak:
The immensity of climbing in Alaska can be overwhelming at times (notice Chris and Abby in the distance).
The route was fairly straight forward as you can see as we left the glacier.
Not only was Chris cheesy at times
but we came across a stray Easter Island rock.
Finally the summit.
The surrounding peaks continue to amaze me; Flute Peak:
