LCNP Trip 2: Day 5

This day did not start out all that inspiring - enough so that there was talk of laying over a day at Dick's (and trying to get some more popcorn out of K and Monroe).  We headed out anyway and were rewarded with some easy route finding and a glorious look at the upper Kijik area - really tremendous!

Some of Dick's great work

The inside of Dick's cabin

His desk where he wrote a 10+ page journal entry every day, made meticulous note on the weather, and mapped his daily treks.

After a slow morning, we finally decided to head out and try to get over our last high pass.

There is a fairly good trail up Hope Creek for a mile or two. It ends at a scenic view of a waterfall.

Using the willows as a wind break

Dick called this "The Graveyard of the Erratics"

A look at the last high pass of our trip. The pass is just to the right of the wall on the left.

Jabooty snow.

More jabooty snow.

At the pass

We came down pretty much right where we hit the ridge. There is a slightly easier descent a bit further up the ridge (against the right most wall).

Jabooty snow on the other side.

Caribou! We actually saw some fresh caribou tracks in the upper Kijik area. Exciting!

Camp! And we got to cook outside!

These shoes (from Columbia) were less then two weeks old! I took them out of the box for my trip with Adrienne!
