Day 2: Baneful Peak 6.10

We were up by 5am ... and on the summit shortly after 10am!  We began with a good bit of bushwacking but got on a hunters' trail rather quickly.  Unfortunately, the hunters and the climbers do not always want to go to the same place!  The hunters' trail led us out of the brush but far from where we really wanted to be.  A bit more bushwacking (and elevation loss) got us into the Red Spot valley, which is crowned by the impressive Red Spot Glacier.  The climbing was fairly easy with Steve Gruhn's beta (after entering the main gulley, use a right gulley off of the main gulley to access the north ridge).  The climb down had us searching for a way to avoid the brush but, alas, we ended up back in it for a short bit (after checking out a precarious sheep trail that led to a bear den!).  We were back at the cars by 4pm which got Dave to his kid's soccer game.  Again, another cloudless, windless day ...

Once again, my camera remained hidden in my pack until after the bushwack.

The main gulley ... not the way we went (we exited this gulley at about this point to climber's right).

August thought that the best part of the summit was the snow patch that was there for him to enjoy.
