Day 5   5.28

We decided to take a layover day at Rosie's.  Tony and I climbed Roost Peak (the sentinel of the Eagle River valley) and Becky had a chill-day at the hut.  Our climb ended up being a bit of a slog (it did not freeze overnight).  Tony and I were left wondering who really had the better idea.

Getting ready to head up Roost Peak

Let the kick stepping begin. We poked holes in the snow with our boots for four hours. Rarely was it shallower then boot deep.

Climbing through a trough on the way to the upper glacier

A look at the upper part of the route. We thought it was going to involve a bunch of route finding and steep climbing.

It was surpringly straightforward and flat.

Typical snow on the route. Non-techincal climbing but lots of post-holing.

On the summitt ridge. Finally some good, firm snow!
