Camp 21: somewhere near Columbine Falls (12/20)

Camping in this area is tough to come by.  We had plans on camping at a known spot upriver of Columbine Falls but a group was already there.  We were able to scratch out a site a bit further downstream from them and actually had a great night there.  Becky and Tony camped on a raft.  We took the motor off in anticipation of the final rapid of the trip, which we would hit tomorrow.

This was a fateful day, though.  While trying to find a side hike to do at Quartermaster Canyon (don't waste your time), Brook jumped off an embankment into the river.  He landed on a rock and then had complaints of a "sprained" ankle.  The short of it all is, when we finished the trip he saw a doctor in Las Vegas and had surgery that day for his broken ankle.  A metal plate and a few screws later, he still manages to impress us with his ability to tolerate pain and still have energy and enthusiasm left for joking around.
